Where: Dance Art Center in Warsaw / The Mazovia Institute of Culture / Elektoralna 12 Street
The Dance Art Center in Warsaw invites everyone to take part in the cyclical Kinetographic Meetings. The purpose of the meetings is a presentation of a useful, universal technique of dance and movement notation and the promotion of kinetography. Each workshop consists of three parts: theory, practice and the essential part.
In the theoretical component we will present and discuss topics such as kinetography artists, the history of kinetography, kinetography in Poland, the life and work of professor Roderyk Lange and other significant Polish notators, the records of historical and contemporary dances, a kinetographic analysis of movement in the perception of a dance performance, kinetography as a creative tool, the application of kinetography in research on dance and dance practice. The theoretical part will be followed by an introduction to the practical part, or movement exploration. This is aimed at preparing and introducing participants to the idea of spatial analysis based on Rudolf Laban’s work, consisting in the analysis of directions, levels and planes of the moving body in space. The essential part of the project will consist in a presentation of the core rules of kinetography, an explanation of the signs, the methodology of notation, reading and analysis.
